Temperatures throughout this week and into next are expected to be in the mid to upper 90s with overnight temperatures cooling off quite a bit with lows in the mid-50s. Mark Miller is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Grand Junction and is advising people to keep cool.
Mark Miller
You just want to be able to seek shade whenever possible, seek air conditioning whenever possible, wear loose fitting clothing, drink lots of water. We try to beat the heat and try not to exert yourself too much during the hottest portion of the day

With these high temperatures. Miller says for now the area is not seeing red flag warnings for fire conditions.
Mark Miller
Luckily we've kind of seen that abate for the last several days here. We've kind of lost the wind component, those red flag warnings. Obviously it's still going to be really dry and could be really hot. The fuels down there are certainly still critical just because we haven't had hardly any precipitation in the last several weeks. But thankfully the winds are not there to produce those critical fire weather conditions. So something we don't really have to worry about for right now. We'll kind of see how that translates here in the next week or so.

Generally monsoon season hits southwest Colorado late June into early July. According to Miller. It appears this year's monsoon season is delayed but is hopeful that we'll have some precipitation to the area soon.

We've kind of seen these patterns in the models the last few weeks where it seems like it's coming and then it kind of keeps getting pushed back.So we'll see if this is a true signal or not. But at least for right now it looks like maybe the next week to ten days we'll probably start seeing some deeper, richer moisture kind of come up in this neck of the woods and we'll see if that translates to some more active of weather in terms of showers and thunderstorms and things of that nature.
