When Gordon Hammond found out he was diabetic, he decided to take up running. He spoke with his niece, Amie Hammond, about training in the canyons near Towaoc, Colorado, and the spiritual experience he had running a race on the Hopi reservation.
Gordon Hammond is a member of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe.
