Firefighters on the Vosburg Pike Fire east of Durango have completed their morning meeting and are headed out to the fire lines again. Crews will be strengthening fire lines to continue the progress made yesterday. Aircraft, including a large, “heavy” helicopter, will be available again today if needed. Gusty winds are possible again today and fire managers hope to secure the perimeter before any wind to prevent further fire spread.
Fire managers reported that the fire is 75% contained but contained does not mean out and the potential for additional fire growth is still there. Fire danger remains high and the Durango Interagency Fire Dispatch reminds residents to remain vigilant. Check the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office for the latest information on evacuations and road closures and sign up for emergency notifications if you have not already done so.
